Press Release | November, 2009
Wareham, MA, November 5, 2009: The Cranberry Marketing Committee is pleased to announce the appointment of Ashley Chard as marketing assistant. In this position she will be responsible for assisting with the CMC’s domestic promotion efforts. “To coincide with the overall growth of the cranberry industry, the CMC is expanding its domestic promotion program.” said David Farrimond, Executive Director of the CMC. “Consumers all over the world are discovering this unique berry which is native to the United States”.
Through a variety of methods, the CMC promotes the consumption of cranberries in over 12 countries. Today, because of these efforts, you can find cranberries in supermarkets and department stores all over the world, with the United Kingdom, Germany and Australia representing the top export markets. While this growth has been good for the industry, the US still represents the largest and most important market for cranberries. US consumers have long been familiar with the unique taste and health benefits of the cranberry. “Even though US consumers have had a long tradition with the fruit, especially around this time of the year, we need to continually look for ways to remind them about what makes the cranberry unique.”, Mr. Farrimond explained , “Ashley will be assisting in this effort as the CMC becomes more sophisticated in this process.” From the use of social networking, blogs, traditional PR and other methods the CMC will ensure that cranberries remain at the top of shopping lists year round.
Prior to joining the CMC, Ashley Chard was most recently employed by W.B Mason Company as a Purchasing Agent; she also previously worked in the marketing department. Ashley Chard holds a B.S degree in marketing with minors in economics and international business from UMass Dartmouth. As a student at UMass, she was a member of the honor society as well as numerous clubs including the International Business Association where she served as president. The Cranberry Marketing Committee (CMC) was established as a Federal Marketing Order in 1962 to maintain favorable supply and demand equilibrium for the US cranberry industry. In 1992, the Marketing Order was amended to allow the CMC to promote the sale and use of cranberries and cranberry products. And, in 1999 the CMC launched an international promotion program which was followed with a domestic program in 2002. Currently, CMC conducts generic promotions in the United States, Asia, Latin America and Europe.
